1: Cold As Ice by M.O.P.
“Cold As Ice” was a 1977 song by British-American rock band Foreigner from their self-titled debut album. It became one of the best-known songs from the band - peaking at number 6 in the Billboard Hot 100.
But we suggest you try the freakishly nitrous M.O.P version if you need to lower your body temperature to unreasonable levels of coolness.
The lead guitar break is as sharply incisive as an icicle spear right through the heart!
Get harpooned on this track. It will start the ‘cooling off’ process for you!
2: Cool by Gwen Stefani
“Cool” is a song by American recording artist Gwen Stefani, from her debut solo album, Love. Angel. Music. Baby. (2004). Written by Dallas Austin and our girl Stefani.
The pitter-patter rhythms and the Danny Elfman style arrangements will remind you of Tim Burtonesqe snow-scenes.
And it’s probably better for you than 2 litres of coke and a bottle of Pimms.
3: Baby, It’s Cold Outside by CeeLo feat. Christina Aguilera
“Baby, It’s Cold Outside” is a song with words and music by Frank Loesser and was famously performed by Mae West and Rock Hudson at the 1948 Academy Awards.
You may know it better as the 1999 Cerys Matthews and Tom Jones single. But we recommend the CeeLo Green feat. Christina Aguilera 2012 version. It’s as frosty cold as an ice-pop down your cleavage!
4: Pink Frost by The Chills
The Dunedin, New Zealand based guitar and keyboard rock band The Chills probably created the most hauntingly frosty song of the 1980’s with their polar hit ‘Pink Frost’.
Think of this track as a song-shaped frozen sorbet of wicked sounds and lacerating textures.
Stick it on, then lay back and relax in the snowy cushion of sounds.
5: Listen, the Snow is Falling by Galaxie 500
Yoko Ono is not normally associated with high quality songwriting. Let’s be fair. But the jangly “Listen, the Snow is Falling” song (written by Ono) from the 1969 Wedding Album has been symatheically covered by Galaxie 500 (sung by bassist Naomi Yang.) For a real snowstorm, just wait for the avalanche at the end of this song. It will freeze your bits off!
6: Ice Cream by Hyuna
Our final choice is a K-pop fantasy featuring the doll-like princess South Korean Kim Hyuna.
You should recognise her as the central female dancer and love interest in the Psy music vids.
Her “Ice Cream” video features a cameo of Psy – gulping down a cornet. He certainly slurps up the cream!
By the time you have sucked on Hyuna’s ice-cream, cream, cream though … you might not be as cooled down as you would have hoped for. In fact, you might need a cold shower.
